Woman arrested in Cebu mall for bomb joke

Suspect Jasmin Sabroso pleads with law enforcers for her release after she was arrested for making a bomb joke at a Cebu mall.

CEBU - A woman was arrested by law enforcers for allegedly making a bomb joke during a safety check at a mall here on Friday.
Jasmin Sabroso, 37, supposedly told the security guard of a mall not to open her bag because of a bomb inside it.
She was arrested by an officer from the Cebu City Public Safety Company.
The mother of two from Barangay Tipolo, Mandaue appealed to the security guard and law enforcers for her release, and said that she did not know it was against the law to joke about bombs.
Senior Police Officer 1 Rommel Opporto said Sabroso will be detained and charged for the violation of Presidential Decree (PD) 1727, which bars the malicious dissemination of false information about bombs, or making threats concerning bombs, explosives, or similar devices.
As the courts will be closed until Monday due to a long weekend in Cebu, the case against Sabroso will be filed on Tuesday.
Those who violate PD 1727 are not entitled to bail pending trial, and if found guilty can either be imprisoned for five years at the most or slapped with a fine not exceeding P40,000, or punished with both.
The decree was signed by former president Ferdinand Marcos in 1980.
